Open Cell Spray Foam Insulation is the most affordable foam insulation product available. It expands more than 100 times its liquid volume and to the point of the inner cells bursting open. This makes the foam softer and less moisture resistant than it’s sibling, Closed Cell foam. Open cell foam is often used in interior floors and walls to reduce sound transmission. In walls, it typically expands past the studs and the excess is cut off flush to allow for drywall.

Closed cell foam is inherently more rigid and moisture resistant, making it ideal for high moisture applications like crawlspaces and refrigeration. It also has a higher R Value per inch than that of Open Cell foam. This makes it the best insulation to use where space is limited.
